INTERVIEW WITH FOSIA HUSSEIN

 

 

Q1. What is your name?

A1. Fosia Ali

 

Q2. Are you under 24?

A2. Yes

 

Q3. Which Organisation do you currently work for?

A3. Education Development Center (EDC)

 

Q4. What is your job title?

A4. Accountant

 

Q5. Why did you choose this line of work?

A5. In the beginning it came by chance while I was at the University of Hargesia studying business course. A job was published for Clerk office and an account at Hallo Trust, I went for the interview and testing at the Hallo trust compound. I was successful on the interview and was offered the Accountant post, I happily accepted the offer.

 

Q6. How long have you been with your current employer?

A6. I have been with EDC for three years and hope to be here for many years to come.

 

Q7. Are currently enrolled in to a course?

A7. Yes I am currently studying my fourth at the Admas University.

I put hold on studies after being employed by Hallo Trust in 2004 in University of Hargiesa and then restarted on 2006 in Admas University I am currently studying Accountant course.

 

Q8. What is your level of education?

A8. Final year of my BA in Accounts

 

Q9. What were you doing before your current employment?

A9. I was working with Halo Trust as and accountant and before that I was kinder garden school teacher at Albaraka School. I really gained a lot in with there, main being patient with people.

 

Q10. How long were you looking for work before you were employed?

A10. For me I think I was lucky because I found my first job as a teacher in three months after I graduate from high school by continuously searching at news papers and even going by myself to the schools and NGO’s.

 

Q11. Do you enjoy your current work and why?

A11. Yes I real enjoy my work here at the EDC. I’ve realized that after all I was good at what I do and enjoy it.

 

Q12. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

A12. Good question, in the next five years I hope to setup my own consultancy firm that has links with international bodies. I believe I am in my first steps by finishing my BA in Accounting this year after all it is all about knowledge and experience to reach my goals.

 

Q13. Do you currently work as a team, please explain?

A13. Yeah I work as team consist of four people. Working as team has many advantages. Team helps us to reach our gaols faster by sharing information and good channels of communication among the team. Sometimes there could be conflict among the team members and to solve the conflict is dependent on every member of a team.

 

Q14. Do you enjoy working as a team?

A14. Sure, I enjoy working as team.

 

Q15. What skills have you learnt from your current employer to date?

A15. Learned quick book inventory management

 

Q16. Who is your role model?

 A16. Adna Adan, she is political figure, although I am not in to politics she made me proud by becoming the first woman by becoming a Minster of foreign affairs. Oprah Winfrey the American media personality, Academy Award nominated actress, producer, literary critic, magazine publisher was named one of the 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century, she is also my role model.

 

Q17. What advice would you give to other youth about finding livelihood opportunities?

A17. Never give up on finding jobs and looking for opportunities.

Youth should have skills before work and try to look for experience, like voluntary work as a first step. Never limit your field of work; believe that you can have whatever you want with little bit of hard work. 

 

Q18. If you had one million dollars what would be the first think you would accomplish?

A18. I would establish charity organization for orphan and street children's in Somaliland, this one I am going to do it with the million dollars or without it. I would also establish a program designed to fulfil my mission of both educating the poor people and educating the educated about the poor people, and of course establish my own big accounting consultancy firm all around the world.
