LRC Implements New Program for Shaqodoon Youth
Over the last two weeks, trainees from the Hargeisa Shaqodoon program participated in a 2-part workshop entitled Job Preparation. JP is designed to provide youth with knowledge and practice in the job search process.
30 trainees attended each session which addressed 5 different areas of the job-search process: imagining your future, matching interests and skills with positions, resume/CV creation, interview techniques and practice, and how to keep a job once you’ve found it. With critical thought and practice in these areas, youth who have completed the program will be better equipped and more competitive as they continue their search for employment.
The workshop was facilitated by two EDC staff members and recruited volunteers for the interview practice.
6 EDC staff members participated in a mock interview with participants and provided informed and critical feedback. Many of the trainees have never been on an interview before so practicing with potential employers gave them insight into the reality of interviewing, prompting them to consider dress, attitude, preparation, and nerves.
“They don’t have things like this for youth here”, commented one EDC volunteer.
JP will be offered again in the fall. For more information, contact Abdikadir Suleiman at asuleiman@edc.org.
