On May 1st, 2024, Shaqodoon Organization joined government officials, employees, and local partners in commemorating International World Labor Day in Berbera.

Co-hosted by the European Commission and Belgium, The European Humanitarian Forum 2024 attracted a diverse group of stakeholders, including EU institutions, member states, partner organizations, and representatives from the humanitarian-development community​ to highlight urgent humanitarian needs and the importance of innovative solutions in humanitarian responses.

The World Youth Skills Day event organized by Shaqodoon in Mogadishu was an exceptional platform to unite and recognize the potential of young people as catalysts for change. By equipping Somali youth with in-demand digital skills, Shaqodoon is enabling them to seize opportunities, contribute to their communities, and build a prosperous and sustainable world.

Most SMEs fail within the first 3 years of operation due to a variety of reasons including, access to finance, lack of enabling environment, unregulated market competition, lack of entrepreneurial skills partnerships culture, no solid regulatory body with policies to support youth and women-led ventures among many others.

Marking 15 years of the Global Entrepreneurship Network, this year, Shaqodoon hosted two events, one in Garowe and another in Hargeisa aimed at bringing together youth/women led SMEs and startups, and create an innovative sharing environment where the youth/women could connect with industry experts and explore experiences and challenges faced in getting startups to thrive.

According to an assessment conducted by the Ministry of Employment, Family and social affairs the number of unemployment rates indicates that 75% of Somaliland people are unemployed. According to this data, 30% of the unemployed are females while 20% are young males, but the remaining 15% are adults. The assessment noted that Hargeisa, which is the capital city of Somaliland, has been constrained by high levels of unemployed youth and especially university graduates.
