EMERGE: Empowering Marginalized Groups through Economic Graduation in Somalia (2024–2029)
Challenge
Displaced and host community households in Baidoa & Hudur face chronic food insecurity, over-reliance on humanitarian aid, and a lack of pathways to self-reliance due to fragmented services, weak livelihoods, and limited access to financial services.
Project Goals
EMERGE uses the Graduation Approach to help vulnerable households transition from dependency to stability through structured support: cash transfers, coaching, skills training, and access to productive assets.
Key Activities
Consumption Support: Direct cash assistance to address immediate needs.
Coaching & Mentoring: One-on-one support helping participants develop long-term resilience plans.
Savings & Financial Literacy: Training beneficiaries in financial planning and managing savings.
Skills Training & Job Creation: Vocational and entrepreneurial skills aimed at sustainable livelihoods.
Distribution of Productive Assets: Tools and inputs—such as livestock, equipment, or seeds—to generate income.
Expected Impact
158,000+ individuals (including at least 70% IDPs) will gain improved food security and resilience.
Long-term pathways toward financial independence and self-reliance.
Strengthened local capacity and better social cohesion among vulnerable populations.
