Shaqodoon Hands Over DuunyoRaac Animal Disease Surveillance System to Ministry of Livestock in Mogadishu

Shaqodoon Organization successfully conducted the handover and capacity-building workshop for the DuunyoRaac Animal Disease Surveillance System in Mogadishu, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Somalia’s national animal health surveillance and response systems. The workshop brought together technical staff and senior officials from the Ministry of Livestock, Forestry, and Rangeland, alongside implementing partners and stakeholders from the livestock and animal health sector.

The DuunyoRaac system was developed by Shaqodoon in collaboration with World Vision Somalia, CARE Somalia (CARESOM), and the WARDI Relief and Development Initiative under the Anticipatory Action and Resilience in Somalia (AART) Project. The project is funded by the Government of Denmark in Somalia and is designed to enhance early detection, reporting, and response to animal diseases, particularly in pastoral and agro-pastoral communities that depend heavily on livestock for their livelihoods.

During the workshop, Shaqodoon’s technical team provided hands-on training to Ministry officials on the functionality and management of the DuunyoRaac platform. The sessions covered real-time disease reporting, data collection and analysis, alert generation, and coordination mechanisms to support timely response and decision-making. Participants were also oriented on system administration, data ownership, and integration with existing government animal health and early warning structures to ensure sustainability and long-term use.

Officials from the Ministry of Livestock, Forestry, and Rangeland welcomed the handover, noting that DuunyoRaac will significantly improve the Ministry’s capacity to monitor animal health threats, respond to outbreaks more effectively, and protect livestock-based livelihoods. The system is expected to contribute to improved food security, reduced economic losses from animal disease outbreaks, and stronger preparedness for climate-related shocks.

Shaqodoon highlighted that DuunyoRaac builds on its broader digital innovation and anticipatory action portfolio, aligning technology with government systems to deliver practical, scalable solutions. Partners World Vision Somalia, CARESOM, and WARDI reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Ministry in the operationalization and continuous improvement of the system under the AART Project.

The handover and training workshop concluded with a shared commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, ensure effective utilization of the DuunyoRaac system, and advance resilient, technology-driven animal health services across Somalia.
