How Can a Skills Boost Confidence – Deeqa’s Journey with SIDA III

At just 22 years old, Deeqa Ahmed Ciise from Somaliland has transformed her life through the SIDA III: Inclusive Livelihoods for Vulnerable Pastoral Groups project.

Before joining the program, Deeqa had little exposure to technology beyond basic social media use. She dreamed of pursuing a skill she loved, but lacked the training, tools, and confidence to make it a reality.

Through SIDA III, Deeqa enrolled in graphic design training, where she learned practical digital skills such as Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. More than just technical knowledge, the course helped her gain confidence in her abilities and a renewed sense of purpose.

“Now I can use technology to advance my skills and share my designs with the community. This has inspired me to believe I can be self-reliant and even support my family financially.” – Deeqa

The program didn’t just give her a skill; it gave her a vision for the future. Today, Deeqa proudly shares her work with peers online, inspiring her friends to pursue digital skills as well. She feels empowered, motivated, and determined to carve out a career in the digital economy.

“I am very happy that I’ve achieved success in a field I love. I share my journey with my friends on social media to encourage them to also learn digital skills.”

Like many young people, Deeqa still faces challenges particularly access to adequate tools such as computers to keep learning and working. Yet, with the foundation she gained from SIDA III, she is confident in her ability to overcome obstacles and build a sustainable career.

Looking ahead, Deeqa dreams of becoming a recognized professional in the digital market, earning a good income, and continuing to inspire others. She credits the project for its unique approach going beyond teaching a single skill to also build students’ confidence, hope, and resilience.

Why this story matters
