Success Story: Abdiqani’s Digital Leap Forward
“Before this training, my life was ordinary. Now I see a future full of opportunities.”
– Abdiqani Jama Aden, 21 years old
At just 21, Abdiqani Jama Aden from Somaliland felt he was missing something vital. While focused on his education, he realized he lacked the digital skills needed for the future of work. Technology, to him, was limited to phone calls, messages, and social media. He longed for more—for a way to build a career, support his family, and contribute to his community’s progress.
That dream became reality when he joined the SIDA III digital skills training, delivered by Shaqodoon.
A Transformational Learning Journey
Abdiqani chose Graphic Design as his focus. Over the course of the training, he learned to create professional-quality designs using industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. He also built practical skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint—turning abstract ideas into impactful visuals and presentations.
“The most valuable lesson I gained is how to combine creativity with technical tools to make designs that influence people.”
The training gave him more than technical know-how—it gave him confidence. For the first time, Abdiqani felt equipped to compete in the job market and even dream of starting his own digital services business.
From Learner to Community Contributor
One of Abdiqani’s proudest moments came when he designed a youth awareness campaign poster for his community. The design drew wide attention and proved to him that his skills could create real social impact.
Now, Abdiqani is sharing what he’s learned. He regularly helps peers and local youth explore graphic design software and shows them how to use the internet for education, research, and job opportunities—not just entertainment.
This ripple effect is multiplying the impact of the training far beyond one student.
Overcoming Barriers
Like many young people in Somaliland, Abdiqani still faces challenges: limited access to powerful computers and fast internet. But with the encouragement of his trainer and the foundation of practical knowledge he now has, he is determined to push forward.
A Future of Ambition and Hope
Looking ahead, Abdiqani dreams of becoming a professional graphic designer with clients in both local and international markets. His ambition is to train other youth in his community, ensuring more young people can join the digital economy.
He knows what he needs: access to better equipment, internships, and continued mentorship. But most importantly, he now believes in himself.
Why This Story Matters
Abdiqani’s story is proof that SIDA III is equipping young people with the tools of tomorrow. By turning a young man’s limited exposure to technology into a pathway for economic empowerment, community impact, and leadership, the project shows how investing in digital skills can transform not just individuals, but entire communities.
