Growth Enterprise, Employment and Livelihoods (GEEL)
Challenge
There is a particular need in Somalia to mobilize youth investment, knowledge, resources, and action to drive sustainable employment and enterprise development programs aimed at youth and women. Startups struggle to access finance and lack services to support their growth – most function informally and require training to help professionalize their operations. Equip Somali youth with the skills required to obtain productive employment in the agriculture, fisheries, energy, and livestock sectors through customized work readiness and entrepreneurship training to access meaningful employment opportunities.
Project Goals
This action has the objective of building peace, mitigating radicalization, and contributing to stability in Somalia by improving opportunities for youth to engage in peace-building, skills development, income generation, entrepreneurship, sports and culture.
The specific objective is to ensure that youth have access to safe spaces where they can realize their full potential as productive and independent agents of positive change in Somalia.
SO1: Stabilization and governance. Increase the reach and legitimacy of local and municipal authorities, and their capacities to provide services; promote reconciliation and peace building, including addressing drivers of conflict; and deliver peace dividends.
SO2: Economic growth. Revitalize and expand the local economy with a focus on livelihood enhancement, job creation and broad-based inclusive growth.
SO3: Social safety nets. Provide safety nets to vulnerable people to contribute to strengthening their recovery and resilience.
